History, the Starrucca portion of which was written by J. E.
Farrell: "Starrucca existed as a village or settlement nearly three-quarters of a century before the formation of the present borough, which was established in 1853 from a portion of Scott and Preston townships, and is bounded by the above-named townships, and the township of Thompson, in Susquehanna County. . . . The first assessment was made in 1854. The valuation at that time
was $14,235.75, and the number assessed was fifty persons, as follows: .
